Why Do We Want?
Why Do We Want?
It seems that no matter how much we want something, it doesn’t take very long before we want something more, or something else.
What on earth is wrong with us?
We can give all sorts or reasons. In the world of personal development we are told it is good to be unsatisfied because that keeps us compelled to strive to make life better. It helps us grow and stretch beyond our comfort levels. And so we strive and hope and dream and wish for a better life.
Let me also say that in personal development we are shown the gift of gratitude. That is, being grateful for what you already have. It is gratitude that creates more to be grateful for.
Remember that what you focus your attention on will bring about more of the same. If you are sad or angry or resentful, or depressed, and you wallow in those states, even feed on them, you will create more of the same.
To be in a deep state of gratitude even when your life is deeply challenging will have transformational effects.
We have no problems being happy when things are inline with our self-image. It is only when things are not inline with what we believe to be true that the pain and suffering is experienced.
In most cases our common wants are do to a lack of awareness as to what we actually are. We give life to beliefs that we are incomplete, not whole. This lack of wholeness is always wanting to be filled with daily occurrences that support our beliefs of wholeness. You can easily recognize them by thoughts of “ If I only had that I would be happy, or if this wasn’t happening I would be happy”.
We think we want happiness, but in truth what we want is to be whole, complete, unconditionally loved. That’s a big one isn’t it, unconditionally loved?
What does that mean though? Maybe you can remember what it was like to be an infant or very young, perhaps one or two years old. These days were filled with the sense of unconditional love you would receive from your parents. As we say, “ You didn’t have a care in the world”. You were just existed and everything else was provided for you, especially a complete sense of safety and security. You didn’t know you were lacking anything, and so felt complete.
Well, this is a good example of what you are wanting to re-create in your life experience.
This is why we want. We unknowingly are wanting to feel safe and secure. The seeming problem is our imagined-self or who we believe ourselves to be is made up of beliefs that are imperfect, unfinished, not whole, and not the truth.
When you stand in a place of untruths, you will always feel insecure, and lacking.
Lacking what though? It is the lack of awareness of what you truly are.
What you truly are is not a personal identity. You are not a bunch of beliefs and concepts. You are not the body. You are the True Nature of Existence. You are Awareness itself.
You, right now are complete and whole, you just believe you are something else, something less. But that is all that is going on. You developed beliefs based on your life experience, which shaped a personality. Yet you were there before the personality was developed during your childhood. What you truly are, is and always will be present. It cannot go anywhere. You as the True Nature are always complete, and now. It only feels that you are not because of your conditioning.
You are been pretending to be yourself as your conditioning instead of your True Nature.
Stop pretending to be something you are not. You are not a mask of beliefs.
Our health and wellbeing lay in awakening to our True Nature and letting go of the habit of identity with all its fears of non-existence.
In truth it is only a conditioned response or habit in believing in an identity.
Giving meaning to thoughts and events and holding onto them as part of a false identity is what causes all the pain and suffering.
Holding onto a false sense of your true Self, is the cause of pain and suffering. It is not needed and does not give this life experience any true joy and peace.
All that is needed is the realization that you do not require a made up, (false), identity to exist.
The time is now, not sometime in the future for you to create health and wellness. See this moment as the critical point of changing your life around.
